Kanon reaches it’s first ” ending ” with the finale of the Makoto arc. Makoto clearly has the saddest ending I think, but in the end it’s more bittersweet and you feel happy for her, both because she’s at peace and got to spend time with Yuuichi. Even after watching her lose both her memory and control of her body, Makoto still gets the happy ending she wanted. Also, Mayumi Iizuka is awesome for being so expressive while just saying ” Auu “. She is half of what makes Makoto so great to me.

I’m glad Kyoani managed to make it sad, yet keep that hopeful tone towards the end. The one scene, with Makoto in the wedding veil beneath the sunset, was absolutely beautiful to me, and I’ve been waiting to see it since the promo trailer. Not dissapointed at all. It’s even better in context. Though all the smaller moments, Makoto remembering her name, Makoto playing with Nayuki, the family going out, Yuuichi playing with Makoto before she disappears, it really was a perfect and beautiful ending. As for when Makoto appears sleeping at the end, it probably is meant to be implied that she still exists in some way. In the old Kanon’s Kazehana special, Makoto also reappeared to play with Amano, so that’s what’s Kyoani’s referencing I think. Or maybe there’s some Makoto good end I don’t know about.

And speaking of Amano, she was pretty cute with Yuuichi, wasn’t she? Never thought she could be so playful and flirty. I didn’t realize until now that she’s voiced by Maaya Sakamoto, who did Haruhi in Ouran. I seriously couldn’t tell she was the same person. Hard to believe she could go from sarcastic Haruhi to Yuki-like Amano. Amano, Kaori, Sayuri, all the sidekick girls in Kanon really need more love (especially Kaori. When’s that Shiori arc?). Looks like it’s going to be Mai next and her crazy story. Never have understood it at all, though there is Mai kicking (imaginary) ass.
