Game Review: The world to reverse
I’ finally got around to finishing one of the doujin visual novels from Al|together 2006, this one ” the world to reverse “, an excellent pair of dark and macabre stories.
The first one, ” Hallucination “, is a very interesting story about a girl in a hospital and the girl that visits everyday to yell at her. I would say more, but it’s a very short story and would ruin it. I’m surprised at how fast I was able to get through it once, as it took me just five minutes to go through. But for such a short story, there’s suprisingly four different endings, each very unique, though there is a definate ” good ” one I think. There’s very little visuals, but how their presented is very unique. The picture is constantly grainy like really old movies, and really adds to the feelings of nostalgia and memory in the work.
The second story ” Flanca ” is just as short as the first, but has a whopping sixteen endings! However it’s a very powerful story, and a lot better than the first I think. It’s about a boy’s interactions with people around an opera house, and focuses on themes of abuse, homelessness, disease, and castration. Yeah it’s a very dark story. You have to read it multiple times to understand it, and make sure to read the P.S. stories at the end to get the whole picture and understand the character’s motivations. There aren’t any graphics at all, just white text on a black background that looks like a notebook. However this adds even more to the depressing feeling the story has.
Anyone who’s been looking for something new or a serious visual novel story should definately check these out. The game can be gotten here at Al|together 2006.
