Nighty: So your saying Dio's uncompromising villiany is what makes hime gar, like how Gai's COURAGE makes hime gar? Yeah, I can see it that way too.

Even though I would have rather seen Archer win, but still Onizuka is a true manly man.

Onizuka saved a girl from yakuza and got shot doing it and still took the national exam after after being shot. And he was even more GAR in the Shonan Junai Gumi where basically all he does is fight like a truely manly man should and chases after girls.

Dio's AWESOMENESS transcends GAR.

There's a reason despite not having anything even remotely close to being "morally ambigious" like most villians of the newer generation, Dio Brando remains one of the most legendary villians in existence, even before the power of ZA WARUDO became known.

It's sad people know him for only his MEME, WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

I have never even heard of Dio having one gar moment. He has niether the morals or sacrifice necessary to be gar. Hax powers do not make one gar, no matter how cool or powerful they are.

nothing that comes from type-moon can be considered even REMOTELY gar. That truely gar individuals like Dio Brando could lose to Archer is pathetic.

Bazette: One, Archer fought Berserker knowing full well he wasn't going to survive at all. Now sacrifice gar does not make, but it helps.

Two. Archer's garness comes from the Unlimited Blade Works storyline that wasn't animated. Archer was unique as a heroic spirit because he could keep his memories instead of lose them like everyone else. Through his repeated summonings he realized that everything he fought for was a lie and he had sacrificed his life for nothing.

Because of this he decided that he would go back and kill his former self, Emiya Shirou. This is amazing in one way since it's a one in one hundred billion that Archer would be summoned in the Fuyuki Grail War. A lot of people have said that Archer killing Shirou is like him performing suicide, which is emo. Yeah, Archer did in a way wanted to kill himself. A heroic spirit cannot die, so the only way Archer could die would be killing his past self with his own hands before he became Archer, which would basically destroy the universe and wipe out the idea of Archer before he was created.

However, in the end Archer realized that giving up was not the way, and instead chose to continue fighting on, no matter the pain or sacrifice. This is what is meant by " I am the bone of my sword, ". Archer will stick to his ideals no matter what. That is what makes him gar.

panzer_magier: Yeah, Onizuka is going to get owned by Master Asia. I just can't seem him getting by on his own votes.

i admit that onizuka is a gar man, and that his ideals are something a true man have, but this outcome is unacceptable for me.

onizuka and archer is a hard couple to compare with, as their characteristics clearly differ from each other. i have not watched all of gto, but i've seen some, and i can say that onizuka's wish to protect his students above all else is something worthy of mentioning. however, archer's ideals, personality, symbolism, and even that impossibly cool physical appearance is simply one notch higher than the great teacher. i have not played fate/stay night, so i cannot express the true man who archer is. but from the vast access of the infinite internet i can tell that archer's loss is one that occurred way too early for a man of his caliber.

i only fear that this might be a sign of the impossibility with the great teacher prevailing above the rest with his vast popularity. i realize that this has only about a 0.1% chance of happening, but if gai can turn 1% into 100% with true courage, maybe gto can turn 0.1% into 100% with true nourishing love. O.o

Archer's story is reduced to this:

1.Summon
2.Fights Lancer
3.Injury from Saber
4.Fights Berserker
5.Dies

Nothing to GAR about.

How about I was in an emotional state and felt like writing something dramatic? I'll agree that Onizuka is gar, just like every character who made it to the quarterfinals, but my personal preference goes to Archer.

I also think it was more Dio revenge votes that caused Archer to lose.

"And the light of gar will burn again"?
Sorry for sounding accusing, but that statement makes it sound as though Onizuka isn't gar at all.

Maybe Garcher's loss was due to GTO's popularity.
