Fanboy Ravings on Nitro+

As an otaku in the western world not knowing Japanese, you become accustomed to certain things. The main one being that you will never, or not be able to for a long time, play any of the many awesome visual novels that exist. You could learn Japanese if you really wanted, but it mostly comes down to a priority of time and commitment, which sometimes aren’t possible at the moment. So when it’s the big companies like Type-Moon or Key, it’s ok, they’re so popular that either translations or plot synopsis’s get posted. But what about those games that aren’t as popular in the west, yet are still completely awesome? That’s what I’m going to talk about today, focusing on the many great games from Nitro+. Keep in mind I have no idea what the plots of most of these games are, I just think they look really cool.

While perusing the scanned copy of Fate/Zero on my computer, I noticed several adds for Nito+ games in the back. This is pretty natural, seeing as how Urobuchi Gen is the author of Fate/Zero and also works for Nito+. One of the images in particular caught my eye. It appeared to be a badass guy in a skull mask holding a loli, as seen above. Immediately I thought ” Damn, that looks awesome. ” So after looking on Niro+’s site I found it. I believe it’s called Kyuuketsu senki VJEDOGONIA, an early Nitro+ game. Here is the OP video for it:

As you can see, it looks like an awesome horror game I, as many others, would love to play. Too bad I won’t be able to anytime soon. And due to it’s relative obscurity I have no idea what the plot is. I think it’s something like a vampire hunting vampires. Or maybe it’s Skull Rider japanese style. So I looked through the rest of Nitro+’s games to see what I could find. Two of them I knew: Demonbane and Phantom of Inferno. I’m already a huge fan of the Demonbane anime and I had seen MAD’s of it’s games, so I knew it was good. Phantom of Inferno was the only Nitro+ game available in english, published by Hirameki. You know I’ll be buying it now.

MAD for Demonbane.

OP for Phantom of Inferno. So I did some more searching around and found other awesome Niro+ games, like this one. I think it’s name is Angelos Armas. Here’s the OP:

I have no idea what this game is about, but I would love to know. I think it’s an angel who fell in love with a human so the other angels have to kill him. With guns. Cause naturally angels carry guns. It looks to me what would happen if John Woo made a visual novel. It looks like such a great game that I would love to play or at least talk about, but I’ve never heard anything about it. Nitro+ doesn’t seem to have much of a fan following in the west, or at least doesn’t on the visual novel boards I frequent. Here’s the final Nitro+ game I noticed, Jingai Makyou. Some figurine collectors may know of Ignis, who was popular a while back and came from this game. Here’s the OP:

So there we have it, some awesome games I hope to play some time in the future, just not the near one. What was the purpose of this post? Mainly to highlight my new found obsession with Nitro+ and share that love with the world. And I thought it was time for another youtube heavy post. The only probably of me playing these in english soon is Hirameki, but this interview doesn’t make me feel good about that. Maybe I’ll have to hedge my bets on Peach Princess maybe picking something up. They seem to be moving into the more mature storyline level of games. As usual, anyone who would like the share the full versions of any of these songs with me, especially the one from Vjedogonia, are welcomed to.

How can live-action top this?

Negima will apparently be turned into a live-action drama soon. All I can say is ” huh? ” How is Negima even supposed to work in live-action? Two anime series haven’t done it right, even if Negima?! is a good show, so a live-action one wouldn’t even come close. Sounds like Ken Akumatsu milking a franchise for all it’s worth.

How can I get more Millay without a 26-episode series?

We all know by now that Code Geass is getting a second season, but apparently the format is undecided and split between TV, movie, and OVA. How can they be undecided about this? There’s way too much material in CG to fit a movie or ova. Only a 26-episode series can do it justice. Is it money problems? Yeah, right. Sunrise is rolling in money. Hopefully they’ll go the tv route. Also, the broadcast date for episodes 24 and 25 haven’t been decided yet, so 23 will be the de facto end of the season. Watch it be a cliff hanger. Damn Goldenweek, messing up my anime.

How about letting this be the manga? It’d sell millions, I say.

The third volume of My-Otome Zwei has been given a definite release date of May 25. A little late, but I’m used to it. Also, the My-Otome manga will start again this month from where it ended. Their probably banking off the success of Zwei, so maybe the manga will tie in somehow. But the manga is so radically different that the two couldn’t possibly go together. Oh well, I loved the manga so more of it isn’t a bad thing.
