>>but Hayate kind of takes it from a romance/harem comedy perspective

Ah, ok. That's all I need to know. Guess I'll pick it up sometime after my exams. Thanks.

In the reader poll held around chapter 120, Hinagiku outstripped everybody else by a large margin of votes.

You're in good company.

@Demian: "Both their comedy is roughly the same"
Just no. There is a huge difference- Hayate puts references within a comedic framework so that they're funny, whereas Lucky Star just seemingly puts an endless stream of references in front of the viewer and expects the viewer to laugh, which of course, a lot of us aren't doing.

Damn now look what you made me do: I promised myself not to comment on Lucky star any more.

@Owen: Well, Hayate would be easier to pick up, because it has been scanlated, and Lucky Stars isn't. Both their comedy is roughly the same, self-referential and for otaku, but Hayate kind of takes it from a romance/harem comedy perspective, while Lucky Stars is more slice-of-life. It's really just personal opinion, I guess. I personally enjoy Hayate more, just because there's a bit more story, and it's crazier.

In the first fight with Yukiji the reference was to Saint Seiya. She hit Hayate with a Pegasus Ryusei-ken, then she went through the moves of Hyoga's Diamond Dust.

I need some motivation to watch this, because "the funny references" isn't enough (hi2u Lucky Star), and I'm already following too many shows -- how's the manga, and what's the pull factor for you like, with regards to both? It's already scanlated till like 6, almost 7 volumes I think. Could pick that up.
