Viral+bandages=Moe?

So as of episode 10, Simon is still emo, Nia is surprisingly competent, and everybody wants to love Viral tenderly. Sounds about right. Simon’s emoness is really starting to get on my nerves. I expected him to do something manly by now. Being the first to go and rescue Nia was nice and all, but useless when he has nothing to back it up. He needs to get Lagann working again. It’d be nice to see the Gurren-Lagann gattai sequeance again.

Objection! Who do you suppose I am?

I’m really liking Nia. While last episode she was just another cute girl, here it’s shown there’s actually some substance to her. Her naivete easily lets her see both sides of an issue, like questioning the morality of the beastmen’s human extermination, something Adiane or any others don’t seem to think about. She also raised a good point about Kamina, that even if he was a great man the rest of the crew shouldn’t be moping about him and getting things done instead. Especially Simon. You’d think being around him for so long would teach a guy how not to mope. Everyone going to save Nia and bashing into Adiane was awesome. Even Yoko was getting in on the action, and she hates the girl. And now I’m fairly certain Nia’s going to live, but Yoko isn’t. I expect a gar death anyways.

Viral was several levels of awesome this episode. First we saw some complexity added to his character, with his absolute obediance to Adiane. Seeing him get beat down by her tail was just painful. But it’s also amazing to see this guy who’s just as gung-ho as Kamina actually know some humility and when to stand down. And then when Adiane is in trouble he comes out of nowhere and stops a thousand ton ship from crushing her and then throws the ship. You gotta wonder where all this strength is coming from; if he wants Adiane or if he’s trying to prove himself useful so he can get a spot in the four generals. Viral’s an interesting guy to look out for. He could either betray the Helix King and become something of a Soldat J character, or overthrow him and become the main badguy. He has both noble and evil characteristics, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens.
