Hosaka of Minami-ke (589) beats Itou Kaiji of Kaiji (562). Either a massive surge from behind for Hosaka here or, as some people claim, mass proxy voting against Kaiji. Choose your poison. I still say Kaiji cries too much for Saigar, no matter how morally GAR he is.
Tomorrow it’s Shark Fujishiro vs. Kino. A shark vs. little girl who knows how to weild a pistol. This should be fun.

Near the beginning of this episode it states that the year is 1990, which is the perfect description for Mnemosyne since it feels like it stepped right out of the OVA boom of the nineties. It’s got gore, sex, torture, lesbians, and vodka drinking loli’s. None of the elements that comprise Mnemosyne are really original, but the whole show feels refreshing to watch. For some reason the “violent adult adventure” anime of the nineties died with the turn of the century, leaving us now with a glut of bishoujo romances and adaptions. It’s nice to see an anime come along that just does violence for violence’s sake. While Mnemosyne gets no points for being deep or challenging, it’s one hell of a fun show, which is also pretty refreshing.
The actual episode does a good job introducing us to our characters, from the tough as nails detective Asogi Rin to the alcoholic Mimi. I would have to say that Mimi, a loli who is probably immortal and loves alcoholic spirits of all kinds, would be my favorite character of the bunch. The plot line with Maeno was well paced to where I didn’t feel like I was watching a 45-minute episode. Contrast this to the times where I wish a 30-minute episode would just end already and it’s only halfway through the episode. The torture scene was particularly grisly, though I liked its inventiveness with piercing and Sayara’s psychotic glee while doing it. The zombies at the end were definitely the weirdest element - when did I start watching Resident Evil? - but all in good fun. The only problem with Mnemosyne is that it’s only six episodes, all spread over six months. I already want the next episode of gory goodness now, along with the OP single. That’s one damn nice OP (mmm chain bondage).
