Up to Ep52 for me. :) It has been long overdue for me to watch this series, and much to my expectations, it has been a brilliant gem.

Cheers.

Always good to see more people liking this show. I don't think it's perfect, but I do think it's way up there in the list of excellent anime titles, so the net result is almost the same.

And yes, this series makes one think of too many interesting things...if only I had written anything down or had a blog. Damn, I want to re-watch this already...(and I haven't had the chance to start the Gaiden OVAs either, but knowing how it all ends in the main series makes me a little reluctant).

I'm no military expert or anything, but I got the impression that most battles in this show simply suffer from applying 2-D thinking to a 3-D environment. It's still done well in-universe, if you don't know or don't care about that, but I'd understand if somebody wants to nitpick that kind of thing from a more realistic perspective.

Finally, people always say that the Empire is more interesting than the Alliance, and maybe that's true in terms of individual characters, but a lot of the most interesting political discussions or dilemmas with some degree of real world relevance require the Alliance to exist. And...I'd rather stop there now, for a couple of reasons.

The only thing I've noticed about the battles in detail is that they do the reverse of 'crossing the T', because the main weapons are mounted at the front and the sides are vulnerable.

The business with the togas was great: that chap presumably liked to have his court playing at being Romans, then it all went wrong and they stabbed him seriously. It's fun when entertainment comments on its viewers and itself like that, plus as you say there's a fair bit of nodding and winking going on.

I don't blame you for picking out interesting things in a kind of note-taking post, either. It's a temptation I've succumbed to when watching the show, and it must be because there's so much meat to write about.

Considering that in LoGH's time, technology has progressed to the point where every military tech advancement has been countered and counter-countered, forcing them to rely heavily on old fashioned formation based battles, who knows? In the far flung future, those dubious strategies just might work.

I any case, from what I've heard, some of the battles in LoGH are based on actual historic battles, not surprising considering that it already borrows so many elements from human history. Unfortunately I guess that in transplanting them to a space setting, they end up being rather two dimensional.

"everything is just perfect."

Not everything. There are also those ridiculously stupid space fleets combat scenes, with most dubious strategies i've ever seen (their strategists must be from Pentagon, he-he).

If LoGH could be crossed with space combat from Starship Operators - THEN everything would be perfect indeed.
