Actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be from what everyone says about it. It’s not as wonderfully eighties as Part I but it tells a pretty good self-contained story that still connects to the earlier works. In many ways it’s similar to the other OVA’s that came out in that time period, 1989; neither woefully bad nor true standouts but enjoyable entertainment on its own terms. Part I is my favorite of the three because all the elements just come to together for a very enjoyable nostalgia ride, but Part III is fun too. Truthfully Part II was the only bad part to me. Deciding to replace a pretty good sci-fi plot with the escapades of a teenage biker gang did not work well at all, and the “more realistic” aka. boring animation didn’t help. Taking away Yui’s wonderful blue hair is just unforgivable.
