Honey & Clover on NPR?
NPR did a short segment on the amazing popularity of graphic novels, and of course manga is featured as an integral part of that explosion. There’s nothing really new or interesting to the segment, but about halfway through a line from an anime is played, and as soon as I heard it I swore I had heard it before. Lo and behold, it was a line from Takemoto of Honey & Clover. He always did have such unique ways of speaking. But the interesting thing is, where did they get a recording of Honey & Clover when the anime isn’t out in the US? Is there some secret otaku out there in the NPR offices? You can listen to the segment here.

Er, the recording is in Japanese… they could’ve got it anywhere. They could’ve ripped it from a fansub, or from an official trailer, or anything. Just because it’s not out in the US it’s still available… (In fact, where I live it has almost finished airing.)
It’s from the first episode of the second season… ah, how nostalgic.

It’s more just funny to think that’s there a Honey & Clover fan at NPR, someone with enough influence to get it into a clip, but oh well.

kuromitsu: but you don’t find that funny? someone from NPR might have ripped that from fansubs, seriously, from bootlegs. I thought that’s a bit amsuing, too.

Ooo, interesting. NPR has to dip its paws in all kinds of things, and keep the generalizations at bay. The j-media is on the rise among youth, so they most definitely see the trends, and dig for meaningful expression/influence. ^^
