I don’t see what all the hate for Lucky Star is about. Sure, it’s not the best comedy ever, or even the best one out now (that goes to Hidamari Sketch), but it was still a pretty good show and after they got pass the food jokes it was funny. Lucky Star is about the daily lives of four high school girls. There’s Konata Izumi, hardcore otaku and gamer who even plays eroge (even though she’s underage); Tsukasa Hiiragi, a clumsy girl who sleeps in all the time; Kagami Hiiragi, Tsukasa’s sister and both the straight man and tsundere of the group; and the meganekko Miyuki Takara, probably the nicest and smartest of the four. The anime is mostly a slice-of-life comedy with many little stories going on. Like figuring out how to eat various foods, why Miyuki is scared of contacts, or visiting Kagami when she’s sick.

Lucky Star is first and foremost a comedy series, which is where it’s hit or miss for most. Its humor can range from good to boring. The whole food conversation was just a dull mess. I don’t know what it is, but a lot of japanese comedies seem to focus on the differences between foods at least once. Food must be a laugh riot for them. The rest of the jokes were, fortunately, better. Konata was the best. Seeing her talk about friends in mmorpgs, moe appeal, or missing her favorite anime were enjoyable, because we’ve all been there at some point. Her fighting Guile the foreigner was the best. Her interactions with Kagami were funny too. They really make a good team. The jokes made at Miyuki’s expense were funny, but I don’t really like her so much. She really is too much of a saint for her own good. The animation was good, it’s not Kanon quality, but it’s nice and vibrant. Again, the OP was awesome, but the lyrics really make no sense. I guess they were just going for cute rhymes. The ED was funny. I hope they do something like that every week. I’ll stick with this for now. It’s a nice light series to unwind with after a long day. And thank your a.f.k. for providing a nice sub in a suitable amount of time (pissed that he’s still waiting for ep.2 of Gurren-Lagann and Nanoha).
