What I’m Wondering Is…
It would cost me a little over a hundred dollars to get all of Robotech - the 89-episode bastardization of Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada - while to get all of Macross, a 39-episode series spread over three boxsets, is ninety dollars. So, why is it roughly the same amount of money between the two when Macross is only 1/3 of Robotech?

…You have answered yourself. Robotech is inferior quality compared to Macross.

Because the 80’s had crazy stuff which resulted in a really bad business decision where a company opted for convenience intead of logic.
…..which resulted in the butchering of 3 stories.

Go for the real deal and get the Macross series. Screw Robotech.

The reason for the pricing is Studio Nue, Big West and Tatsunoko Production have been having a spat over the Macross franchise for the last decade or so, so any kind of international licensing is super expensive because of all the music in each Macross series. This is the reason why Macross 7 and all of it’s spin-offs along with Macross: DYRL, and Macross Zero have never been officially brought over.
I grew up on Robotech, so I still like it just because of my youth, but I would get SDF Macross because I’ve seen all the following series.
