Yes, the much anticipated and berated competition to discover the manliest man/woman/dango in anime begins today with two exciting matches. Round 1 features Dio Brando of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood vs. Kenshiro of New Fist of the North Star vs. Yoko of Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann. Already two heavy contenders from last year are facing off, with me predicting that Kenshiro will ultimately emerge victorious. Cause he’s, you know, Kenshiro “you’re already dead.”
The other group features Aihara Kazuki of Kimikiss Pure Rouge vs. Emperor of Britannia from Code Geass vs. Motsu from Negima!? A rather sorry round of joke characters here. The Britannian Emperor should have no problem wiping away these commoner with his mighty laugh.
I LOL’ed. Still annoyed that Daichi of Bokurano didn’t make it in, but I guess he wasn’t mainstream GAR enough.
It’s also kinda annoying to have what are basically relatively old characters (Dio, Kenshiro) making it into SaiGAR 2008 on technicalities, but I guess that’s popularity for you.

And on the other hand, Emperor of Britannia only has the Norio Wakamoto factor going on with him, otherwise he was little bleh man.
